Just hung 08-09 Buck on the Wall!

Just added another deer on the wall at the office, but this one is special.

I shot a nice 8 pter on the family land I live on this last season.

    Here is the thread....

    Here is the buck

I was/am proud of the buck and he is going on the wall as a european mount, maybe on a piece of Texas Wild Wood

However, I have been waiting on just the right cape to mount a deer that was very special to me. When I was born my grandfather locally was already deceased and my grandfather in Arkansas passed away when I was very young. My father was very close with the preachers father in law and used to treat him as his own. This man was to me like a grandfather for all my life growing up. We took him fishing, hunting,etc.. and he had permission to go just about anywhere locally. Great man. As I got older, he did too and I watched slowly pass over the years. In the end we would practically have to carry him, help him in restroom,etc... but we still took him and did what it took. He died and it was like losing my grandfather. When I was young, he gave me a shoulder mount that was in rough shape. The lead looking ears were exposed and the mount was very rough. Years later I trashed it and just took the antlers off of it waiting to arrow just the right buck. That happened this year and I mounted the old rack on my archery buck from this year. I normally would never mount anyones deer, or buy or display someone elses trophy but in this case, I am proud to do so. I have the 8X10 photo right next to and will proudly tell anyone that ask the story of the buck. I have the gun and several others from this man that he gave to me. I was closer to him than either of my two grandfathers...

My buddy Kris here in Hempstead at Killians did a great job knocking another one out for me. I have an office full of his work.
Deer had some great dark markings on his face, forhead...

Nice tribute, Howard. Sometimes it is not always about family, but people who are just as close as family.
