    primitive backpacking

I know many of you go DIY hunting all over the world. Now I need you imput on a back pack for primitive camping. My 15 year old daughter loves hiking and primitive camping. She is looking for a backpack to "do it all". The more she carries the less I do! What yall got?

    Osprey.
I have over a dozen of their bags, and several 1000s of miles between them, on my back.
My go to for everything, and a warranty as good as it gets.

I have Mystery Ranch BP and for hauling a load they are good. I have used on 3 x 14 day hunts in Alaska. You can load the big ones up. Have heard nothing but good about Osprey as well.

Packs are kinda like boots- get one that fits her frame.

I agree with glen, take her to a couple different places and get them to fit her and see which one she likes. The right pack takes a trip from super hard to super fun!

I use an eberlestock X2 mostly these days. But have owned osprey and stone glacier and they are very well made!

As much fun as driving into Houston is, I’d recommend suffering through it and going to REI. They have a lot of backpack models that she can try on, and they have sandbags that you can put in them to simulate weight and check the fit. My first backpack was from REI, and I did Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Guadalupe Mts, and Big Bend, and I still have it 20yrs later.

Correct fit means everything when your carrying a load for hours. Like others have said go to REI and let them fit her to the correct pack then go buy it else where.

When I did my thru-hike everyone who made it at the end was carrying Osprey or Granite Gear. I think Granite Gear has changed a lot since then, but Osprey has not. I'd carry Osprey if I was to do another big one.

Good question OP, I’m in the backpack market as well. Thanks to all for posting info.

Like the others have said. Take her to REI and have her try them on. I have a few Osprey bags and love them.
