He outsmarted the government, he won. Government if really cared would have had some restrictions in place for access, lack of planning and foresight on government

EDIT: 3rd option would be for the landowner to deed an easement through his property at full market value to the government to allow public access to the publicly owned/funded resource.

Folks have access, by float plane, not uncommon in Canada

Kind of like all the flood control and soil conservation lakes built in Texas by tax dollars that the public has no access too.

Fair. I am sure he pays taxes too... so he's probably one of the biggest taxpayers in that area. Who he is married to, how much he is worth, and how much other land he owns shouldn't be part of the conversation at all.

They should have designated an easement beforehand or pass the necessary laws to remedy the situation. I am sure Canada has bigger issues than giving people access to a lake that's only a 1/2 mi long. Sounds to me like someone is picking a fight to try to make a larger point.

As mentioned above, this is nothing new there a millions of acres of tax payer funded forest lands that are "land locked" Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, etc....are full of these type places. Some outfitters have begun accessing the "sanctuaries" via plane. I do agree taxpayer funds should not fund areas not accessible, this issue is not exclusive to Canada.

one person shouldn't be able to own that much land.... lol nah I think the canada government should be able to build a road to both lakes... OR force him to purchase lakes from the public ..... and or build accesaible lakes the public can access near by ....

If he doesn't want the public to have access to the land, all public resources should be halted If he wants the stocking and management programs to continue then he gets the bill on top of the taxes he pays.

Agreed. They should have designated a path to the water and mot sold all the land to lock it in. Country is to fault. You can still access via helicopter! They should just negotiate a sale of the lake at this point.

Unfair... All private lakes should be open to the public!

Y’all should google up the history of the ranch, very interesting read
Sounds like the owner has a lodge for rent and fishing guides working on the property
The losers of the court battle sound like cry babies, the Supreme Court made a fair call IMO
After digging into the ranch history, glad I live in USA Texas

My only take would be if there is no longer public access to the lake, then public tax dollars should no longer be allocated to support it. That should be on the LO.
