Outboard muff question

    Your impeller is fine. I would not use the hose hook up to run the motor. Flushing is fine to use it. When using the muffs maje sure the seal is good, water is on gull blast and let the lower unit fill up before starting. If you do this it will start pissing after about 15 seconds. Mine does it all the time

      I’ve ran my motor with a hose attached to the cowling before in a pinch. I don’t see how it would hurt. You are essentially just pushing water through the system backwards. As long as there is some water inside of the stainless steel impeller cup the impeller isint going to burn up. I normally use muffs on mine and it takes a minute to start flowing.

        As stated above, let the water run for 30 seconds or so and make sure you have a good seal before you start it. As far as the impeller, it is the complete “dry” start that damages it. Water is lube for your impeller and as long as it’s wet you won’t hurt it by running for a short period of time.
