This was posted yesterday.
NO power for 3 to 4 MORE WEEKS for portions of Texas Hill Country. While North Texas suffered extremely cold temperatures and snow, the Texas Hill Country suffered devastating ice and snow storms. This photo, taken by Luke Robert Miller, reflects a small sample of how much ice packed on to roofs, fences, power lines, power poles and trees. The weight of the ice snapped power poles about a third of their height. The lines collapsed under the unprecedented load and trees were left with no branches - just trunks stripped of all limbs, many of which fell on power lines.
Yesterday, we were informed by Central Texas Electric Cooperative that the damage to infrastructure was so severe that our portion of the Hill Country (Harper and surrounding areas) would not receive electrical service for 3 to 4 MORE weeks. According to CTEC, there is a huge lack of supplies needed to get power back to rural communities - poles and line, etc. The gas stations in Harper are closed - no electricity to pump fuel. The feed store and school are dark. Aqua Texas wells can’t provide water to their customers. Stock animals and wildlife that rely on water wells to fill troughs have no water. For those fortunate enough to have a generator, ‘electrical’ costs (diesel) will cost between $25 and $80 DAILY!! That’s $750 to $2400 for 30 days. These people will be without electricity for a total of 5 to 6 weeks. Where is their help?
While hearings are happening today in Austin to examine the failures of ERCOT, entire communities in the Hill Country won’t be able to make a phone call, cook food, take a hot shower or water their stock. Online school? Not without power!!
