    Learned something new today

All of my life I have heard it is illegal to pick blue-bonnets in Texas. Not true! I know there are a lot of things like that, that are told to be true, that's just not one I've ever questioned. How many others thought like me? Anyone?

Where did you hear it wasn't illegal?

So is it legal to shoot Mocking Birds as well? Not being a S/A but I would like to know.

True, there is no law saying you cant pick them. Most are told as kids not to pick them because they are the state flower, and it just goes from there.

If it were true, then we couldnt eat pecans or cook with pecan wood, because we couldnt cut down a pecan tree....

As for the mocking bird, I dont know if its illegal to shoot them according to TPWD but its not because they are the state bird.

Heck, chili is the state food and I eat that all the time!

It is illegal to shoot any non-game bird (mockingbird, sparrow, cardinal) My buddy found out the hard way when he was dove hunting and his son was shooting cactus wrens with a BB gun and throwing them in the back of his truck without him knowing. The game warden fined him something like 150.00 a bird there was 4 I think. He was not a happy camper.LOL

I believe it is illegal to pick them from a road side. You can pic them on private land.
