    Midway BBQ fire

Last night Midway BBQ in Katy had a bad fire. Drove by today and it looked bad.....think its a total loss.

The owner Herman Meyer had a lifetime of unbelievable mounted animals in the restaurant that I'm sure most were destroyed.

Most of the animals in there were B&C caliber animals. Elk from his hunts at the White Mountain Apache Res., Moose, Caribou, Mule Deer, Bear, Wolves, and even a replica Wooly Mammoth replica that had made from Muskox hides and real Mammoth Tusks. That place is a treasure to go in and just look around the walls.

    Sad day.

Saw pictures on Facebook, really sad! Mr. Meyer allowed a lot of groups to meet in the large back room, like Katy High School’s Young Life. Very sad, I hope he chooses to rebuild.

No sir, those mount were not for sale! Mr. Herman and 2 friends of his killed everyone of those big bull elk. Mr. Herman had to be physically restrained from going into his place during and after the fire. His pastor was one of the guys that helped to restrain him... The family is devastated to say the least. Mr. Herman is a fine, fine man that I am glad to call friend for the past 30+ years. He literally is in shock. I've seen some pics of the interior of the dining room and it is more than heartbreaking to say the least! Initial response from the family is that they will indeed rebuild and better... We will see going forward.

Any of you who are of the mind to pray, Mr. Herman is a strong believer and would covet your prayers. Please join me in lifting him and the family up for comfort and wisdom on how to proceed.
              Thank you.

Indeed a great place to eat and enjoy all the mounts! Mr. Herman great person who would many times walk around and visit with those eating dinner there. Great man to visit with, and had a story for each one of those mounts on the wall. My guess he’ll rebuild, sure hope so! Sad deal for sure.

This is a sad day. Mr. Meyer is an awesome pillar of this community. We have all our DU meetings and banquets at Midway. They are grat supporters of many organization.

Chris, his manager, has already said they will be back stronger than before.

MKT Distillery is trying to organize a fund raising event to collect funds for the many, many employees that Midway employees. Our prayers are with the family, and the employees.

This community rallies together in times like this.

The coolest thing I will miss is all the photos that were on the wall from his hunting trips with family and friends, and the wooly mammoth that hung on the wall, along with the mammoth tusks at the serving line.

I hate to hear these types of stories. Hopefully insurance picks up the tab including the staff salaries. Fire is a fear of mine whether business or home.

I live a mile a mile from there and never heard anything about. Used to eat there pretty regularly then got too expensive, like every other bar b que place.

Man there were some INCREDIBLE animals in that place. A lifetime of adventures and memories up in smoke. A shame. I had a bear scored by a friend of his, J.D. Woods, and he had some awesome stories of their hunts. Thank God no one was hurt.

That is terrible, known Herman most of my adult life 40 plus yrs. He is a fine & humble gentlemen. His collection of Elk is second to none. Can only imagine how devastating to him this is. Prayers for you my friend.
