    Bayonet identification help

I have a bayonet that has been in my family since before I was born in 1957. I was always told that it was a Civil War bayonet and I never questioned it. My great grandfather fought in the Alabama 4th cavalry regiment surviving the war. But because he was cavalry I don’t think he would have carried it. I could be wrong. This morning I was looking at the bayonet and something jumped out at me that I have missed all these years. The socket looks to small to fit a .58 cal Enfield so now I’m thinking post Civil War. If we have any Civil War experts out there please take a look at the pictures and give me your opinion.

I have an 1862 Tower Infield civil war era muzzle loader.
I did have it authenticated. Your bayonet looks like mine.
Mine is a replica bayonet. Wish I knew how to post pictures!

The inside diameter is .662” a dime will just cover it. Is yours the same?

A dime falls through with room to spare
It takes a nickel to cover it like your picture.

Thank you for checking. That tells me what I suspected. I figure your Enfield is a .58 cal which would be to big for my bayonet to slide over the barrel. I’m pretty sure that my bayonet is post civil war.

                  Yes .58 caliber
Got it shooting this year. I might try to hunt with it next year.
