I grew up in SE Kansas. On Sundays we sometimes went to an old dance hall in Miami Oklahoma to jam with guys or just to listen to local talent. I met a guy named Steve Gaines who was so far beyond anyboby that it was scary. I didn't know him personally but it was clear that he just played and to hell with the theory stuff. After a period of time I was listening to Lynaryd Skynard and a friend told me that Steve Gaines was one of the guitar players.
Just learn a few basic things and if you have a heart it'll show up and people will hear it. When that happens you'll have a desire to learn more.

I am not dissing on anyone. I just meant someone who has an awesome talent, and so much to share who does not take care of themselves with the whole stereotypical, distructive, rockstar drug lifestyle thing. I am just amazed at how some people have a gift and others do not. I will just have to work twice as hard. I have been doing that my whole life at stuff. I will just stick with what I know about the guitar, and just keep working with it.

Dave the progression spoke of is to remember what chords go with which chords.

Music goes a,b,c,d,e,f,g and then an octave higher...a,b,c,d,e,f,g, Understand??

If you pick a key to play.... Say G..

Then g would be the key for example... G would be one A would be 2...B3, C4, D5 So the key of G uses GCD. Is that easier??

If you want to change the Song to the key of so that a singer who sings in the key of A can sing the song you want to ply. Start with A which would be the 1st note or key then comes b,c,d,e,f,g which after counting each note D, and E would be the other notes just replace the G with A and the C with D and D with E and then you havre changed the key of the song.

          Key of G GCD
          Key of A ADE
          Key of B BEF

          Hope this helps.

I was very dense on this subject and had to figure it out. I would be more than happy to help in any way. Maybe we can get together on a day I leave from the FD there in Denton

This thread is preety cool. I don't know how to play, but some day I might.. I have had guitars laying around for years so my sons would hopefully learn to play. One did,and hes good. Just fixed a Washburn for him last night. The bridge came off.

Buck fever, some of these idiots as in the guy you speak of have probably been playing since they were 5. My brother has a pawn shop. He is allways haveing kids come in, I mean kids,,10 year olds and tear a guitar uuupppp. I mean like they were born with one in there hands. It is amazeing,, I just shake my head and listen to them play..

Keep pickin and soon you'll be grinning.. Ye,,HA.. Have fun.

I am moving along slowly, but I am moving along. It just takes me a while to process some stuff. The picture is getting clearer. Got my chords pretty much down, I can look at guys playing on TV and can pretty much tell what basic chord they are playing. I am starting to work on bar chords now. Namely the E bar chord. I understand that I can move this up or down the neck and it becomes others chords too.

I'll put together a lesson with pics tonight. Mostly tips and excercises.
I'd do it now but these people are pestering me with actual work.
