    Lets talk about generators

I live in the Houston area and with hurricanes and now ice storms it seems like a generator is becoming a more attractive purchase. I have very limited knowledge on them but thought this could be a good starting point to post it here. I feel I would like a portable generator so that I can take it camping as well.

I would like to provide heat or cool air to one room in the house with a small window unit and maybe a couple of plugs for a lamp, phone chargers, TV.

What things do I need to take into consideration? Thanks

first thing you need to know is wattage you need.
A/c size, heat size, tv amperage draw.

for tv, you'll need at least a ups to protect the electronics from dirty power of generator or buy a inverter.

    it all snowballs from there.

Tally up everything you will want Powered. How many heaters? How many watts each? What lighting circuits? Don’t forget fridges and freezers.

I’ve run gas powered homes including the ac on 7500watts.

How loud is your generator? I don't want to drive the neighbors crazy

That should be the least of your worries. But I will tell you that ALL portable gas generators are about the same volume wise. All natural gas/propane whole home generators are about the same. If you want the quietest around go with an inverter type. They are limited on size thou
