I feel for yall that have been without electricity for hours on end with no backup generator. We’d be sitting in the car if that happened as I dont have a generator either.

I still haven’t lost power. We live about 2 miles from a hospital and pretty large medical area is even a bit closer. I’m wondering if that has anything to do with it...

Electric heat pumps still use much less electricity than conventional electric heat.

The problem with nat gas/propane is delivery. You still have to have compressor stations operational for natural gas and of course propane has to be delivered and stored.

There is no perfect solution. But overall for Texas heat pumps make the most sense. This is a once a decade at best event for Texas. I’m still running in my heat pumps. I’ve not switched to emergency heat. No doubt the foam insulation is a huge help as well.

I’m betting most of these outages are due to snow and ice. Knock on wood, I haven’t lost power yet.
The last snow/ice storm we had last month, I was out of power for 3 straight days. At least I had hot water to take showers and gas stove to cook meals.
People losing it for hours aren’t because of rolling blackouts. Those are ice issues for sure. Seen lots of downed lines and poles around here because of that.

Sleeping with a CPAP, that’ll wake you up quick.

Jason get you a battery back up UPS unit. We have my wife’s CPAP on one and it will typically run for 3-4 hours on battery alone.

Been lucky so far, no outage here yet. Working today ( as always ) but just roughing out, scared power will go out if threading or running a finish pass ( machine shop )

Yup. Probably plenty of both. Ours here in my area have been blackouts. At least they have been timed like it ....

Joe said he was going to model the country after California. They have been having rolling blackouts for about 6 or 7 years at least. Vote Democratic if you like it!!!!!

Mines been out since 1am...no ice here just about 4 inches of snow. That won't cause downed power lines. What else could it be?

If it's a rolling blackout, how long does the blackout typically last for a given area?

Center Point has said rolling blackouts are lasting 1 hour each and if yours is lasting longer than an hour its a equipment failure and you should expect to be without electricity till “at least the rest of the day”.

Still out, since 5 AM. Just heard a spokesman from Centerpoint on the radio that we will be out for awhile, possibly til tomorrow. He didn’t say anything about it being because of downed lines. Essential areas will have power.
