    Chemistry question

trying to help my 10tb grader with his chemistry. Its been since I took it in 1987 that I've done this. Can anyone help and show their work?

    C7H6O3 + C4H6O3 = C9H8O4 + C2H4O2

if 200g of C7H6O3 and 500g of C4H6O3 were used and it resulted in 231g of C9H8O4 what is the percent yield?

I have 38% but not sure thats right.

My son calculated 88%. So at least one of us is wrong, maybe both.

    From Google...

Pretty detailed calculation using 2g of salicylic acid, so just scale that up to 200g.

If salicylic acid is the limiting reagent:

      (200g/138.121g/mol) will give you moles. It's a 1:1 reaction.

Take the moles and convert to grams aspirin. moles X (180.16g/mol).

This gives theoretical yield. Then divide the 231g actual yield by the theoretical.

        Oh dang !
        I hated chemistry.
Thank God for extra credit and a forgiving professor.
        I’m no help lol
