Unique insects built giant nest clinging to tree, Texas officials say. What are they?

A honey-producing insect created this large nest, but it’s not a bee, officials say.
Honey Wasp nest in Texas. Weird looking thing.

Build the wall! That's really a pretty cool story.

Wonder if you can eat the honey?
All we have up here is hornets and wasps that just sting

That’s interesting to me. I’d love to see one.

There was one in my neighbor's backyard tree that fell--took me a while and some help from A&M to ID them. They are totally unaggressive. I picked up a t-post they were crawling on and they just sat there. No honey in the nest I could see however.

article said it was a delicacy. So yes, honey sounds good. Also said the wasps are not aggressive - if left undisturbed.
