    Gas Valve Flange Extension

I keep reading that 3/4 coupler should fit on the valve. The flange threads on to 3/4 pipe without a hitch but two different valves wont thread into the coupler. Assume it has to do with it not being tapered but google keeps saying this should work. Pic coming for reference. What am i missing?

Will the flange thread directly onto the valve?

Did you try turning the coupler around?

Yes to both. I'm stumped and I don't get that way too often on things like this. Seems like the valve is just a hair too big. If the flange is too it all makes sense I suppose.

Are the threads damaged on that end of the coupler? Never heard of this happening, but is it possible the coupler and valve have different thread pitch?

Try what Dale said. It could be a cheap china metric thread on the valve or it couple be a reverse coupling with left and right hand threads.

Not reverse threads. Odd china metric is certainly possible, although same issue on two valves. Was the same coupler so I'll run into home depot later and see. Just making sure I wasn't missing the forest for the trees on this deal. Thanks all, I'll update this.

Looks like different threads. Tee/Valve looks to have straight thread while coupler looks tapered.

Above used as reference to show difference.

NPT coupler vs straight thread valve seems to be the problem from what I can see.

I am with the different thread group.

That valve does NOT have a NPT male thread. It might be NPSM, but it's not NPT.

Also, the iron pipe coupling on the right end of the nipple looks crossthreaded to me, but it could be just the way the pic makes it look... If that "flange" fitting you reference screws onto the 3/4" nipple then you need a gas valve with a male 3/4" NPT connection. That's the wrong valve for the rest of the plumbing pieces you have.

Its fine, what u are doin, the coupling is only gonna grab 2-3 threads and that is all you need. Its just a sleeve for the key, no gas is goin thru it. Tighten it the best you can and roll with it. You will then need an 8" - 10" key, more than likely.
