I may be needing to store a gun or three and corresponding ammo in an air tight container for some time. What is the best way to store these items so they are readily available? Mags too.

Wipe the gun down with a little corrosion x.
Vacuum seal it.
Then put it in another bag and seal it again.
Will need to lay cardboard(cereal boxes work great) over the pointy places so they dont puncture the bag.
Same with ammo, and mags.
Take some of the vaccum off for shotgun shells.
If your machine has real strong suction, it can deform the plastic shells.
Different ideas on whether or not to put a dessicant bag in there.

15" is big enough for what you are wanting.
A big piece of pipe, as mentioned is also good.
You can buy them built just for this type situation.
If you're thinking about storing something underwater though, you may have a hard time keeping one of those from floating .
On the dessicant bag there seems to be conflicting interest on whether or not is pulls moisture from the powder...
The greatest consensus is that it causes no issues.
