    Hunting club vs lease

I have a friend that lives in mississippi he talks about the "hunting club" he belongs to . The have property they lease or buy im not shure, but he says it only costs him $500 a year. My question is what is the difference of a lease and how could it be so much cheaper there vs here.

Usually means there are more members to offset the costs. My dad and I are both on "hunting clubs" in east tx (Angelina & Tyler Co, mld 3) and his dues are $575 w/ 41 members on 8200acres and mine are about dbl that on roughly the same acreage & set-up, but we have additional costs added to it like maintenance on club facilities, club food plots & feed for club stands/guest stands. Plus having the lodges and camphouses onsite ups the costs a little. There are a lot of clubs around the area with similar costs, its just a matter of knowing who to contact about them.

I'm on a club in MS. $750 a year for 10 members on just under 100 acres. have a campsite w/ electricity. Statewide limits are 6 deer a year, plus an additional 2 does may be harvested with a bow. They don't go by countiews like here in TX. I grew up in TX and the main difference I've seen is in TX most all leases or clubs will include your wifes, kids or friends harvest against your quota. In MS the clubs do not do this. My club also has all small game and turkey hunting also. I do love Texas, but I have to admit I love deer hunting in MS more than here. Seasons are also much longer as well.

Just under 100 acres total? Whoa.

seems pretty cheap, but like they said supply and demand here in Texas keeps the prices high. If peopel will pay it, they will charge it.

I'm sure the acres per member are very low (there are lots of hunters on a small acreage.)

Oops. That should read "just under 1000" acres.

Really no difference, we always referred to our lease as a hunting club.
Most hunting clubs now days are on leased lands. Ar, La, miss...etc is big timber land so putting a hunter per 100 acres is pretty common. Our lease/club in ar had around 2400 acres and 20-24 members. Out of those 20 or so members only 1/3 were real serious hunters, others would be there typically for opening week and thanksgiving.Leases in the areas I am familiar with run around $5/acre. So with the cheaper land and more members lease costs get pretty low.

On my club out of the 10 members there are only about 5 or 6 serious hunters. I hunt a lot, and I can honestly say there are 2-3 members I've never seen hunting. But your right, theres usually not much difference. Just like in TX we call a box blind a box blind. In MS and AL they call it a shooting house.
