New Roof. . GAF or CertainTeed shingles?

Howdy everyone, I found some old threads that discussed this but wanted to ask again in case anything has changed. I have a roofing company that is replacing my roof. On the estimate they choose GAF shingles, but also offer CertainTeed. He said I can choose whichever I want. We plan on being here for at least 10 more years, just wanted to see which shingle you all recommend? Thanks in advance.

I got mine replaced 3 days ago. Used GAF and they look great. Obviously though I haven’t had them on long enough to say how well they hold up.

The other company I’d considered would have used CertainTeed.

I used Certainteed back in 2002. Supposed to be 25 yr shingles. Still looks pretty good despite having been through a few Tropical storms. Thinkin I need to start looking again.

I've used CertainTeed on 100's of houses. No problems.

Probably a 6 of one, half dozen of the other type deal though.

Go with the Certainteed Landmark. It looks better and has better warranty. It's a lifetime Shingle and doesn't leave tab alignment rows when Installed.

9/10 of the roofs I replace are Certainteed Landmark .

Certainteed over GAF all day long. Even better Atlas. Compare warranties... I’ve owned a roofing company for decades and the ONLY warranty claims I’ve ever had to replace are GAF. Certainteed does make a good product though...Get an Atlas roof with the Signature Select warranty. Covers materials AND labor. Atlas even warranties algae(dark streaks on roof) for the full length of the warranty as opposed to everyone else at 12 years.

I was going to suggest Atlas or Malarkey (not that NEX line) over either of those 2, but they weren’t options.

Both Atlas and Malarkey are junk.

Are you thinking about the GAF Timberline HDZ vs CertainTeed Landmark or 3-tab?

Side by side comparison, my malarkey roofs last longer than my GAF. Roofs installed in 2019, hit with 2” hail in 2020. Malarkey Highlander barely had any damage. GAF in same neighborhood was toast. Damage in that area was bad enough Farmers was automatically approving claims in the zip code. I could have had my customer file the malarkey roof but it didn’t need it.

But I’m in a different climate than most. Malarkey seems to perform very well in our high winds, dry heat and frequent hail

10yrs I'd buy the bargain with best labor quality. In 10yrs every inspector will note possible roof issues. They never ask us what brand is on the house.

So are you saying Malarkey shingles last longer that GAF in general, or Malarkey is just more resistant to hail?
