Before I go and spend three hundred or so on a GPS, I would look seriously at the new tiny HP's - (they are actually called HP mini's I think).

The solid-state model (no hard drive) is $299 at Target.com. Add Delorme Streets with GPS receiver for $69.

You just got a wireless computer with GPS and a ten inch screen for less than $400 -- just another option to consider.....

I use the Garmin Nuvi 200 a lot to get to a tracking call, that thing will send ya down deer trails if it's faster!

my wife has a Tom Tom and I like it for driving in the metromess, but I have had it on when I was on a trip that I knew the route for, just didn't know the exact location and it wanted me to go on all kinds of roads that were out of the way. I don't know how I feel about them now. Maybe just a bad experience

My garmin does that too. It never wants to go the way I want to go.
it will still get you there just not always the shortest, fastest route. I like to take back roads and avoid interstates when possible, I wish it had a "avoid interstate" function.

Mine is not a nuvi, its a C350 or something like that. It was the model before the nuvi's became really popular.
