I’m type 2 diabetic, anyone in the same boat that could help get me started?

After eating the "Keto" diet for 6.5 months my blood pressure has dropped from the 150 over 80 something range to 117 over 69 with a 59 pulse. It was not my intention to drop my BP, but I felt like it would drop if I dropped some weight. I also started mowing my lawn with a push mower every 3 days instead of riding my Hustler ZTR. Down about 35lbs. YTD( 6'-210) and trying to maintain that weight.

Bumping this up. Just started Keto 9 days ago and got into ketosis really quick. On day 7 (last sunday) I had TERRIBLE headaches and was really foggy all day. I tried to overhydrate and took some vitamins and felt better yesterday but last night my tested ketone levels were much lower than earlier in the week, like half or more. I got a great night sleep last night and woke up feeling great but tested my ketone levels again I slipped more and was nearly back to trace levels this morning. Felt great all day. What gives? I have had maybe 10g carbs in 9 days.

I don’t know what’s up with your ketone levels, but to be honest, I never tested mine. Your carb intake is extremely low. I tracked everything for 6+ months on carb manager and my net carb goal was around 20g/day. When I was hitting it hard, I’d be around 15-16/day. I lost 60lbs in 6 months and have maintained that weight loss for over a year now. I added some foods back and keep around 30g net carbs/day now. I highly highly recommend tracking everything you put into your body on some sort of app. You are most likely deficient somewhere. I was way low on my fat intake for the first month and it took some research to figure out how to get it up and what foods to eat. When I started hitting my goal numbers the app gave me, weight just started shedding and I felt fantastic!

I hope folks are using a tracking app to help with the macros. Here is a screen shot of yesterday both showing macro intake and carbs. Down to 203 and wanting to break 200.

I'm down 10-11 pounds in 19 days but my macros aren't right and I can tell a difference versus when I'm eating 70% fat 25% protein 5% carbs. For the last 7 days or so it's been more like 70% protein 25% fat 5% carbs. Still loosing but can tell a difference in my energy level at the end of the day and my appetite.

I'd be interested to hear quick(er) lunch recipes from you guys. I'm getting burned out on lettuce wraps and boiled shrimp

For me it just depends on the day. A lot of times it is leftovers. I’ll grill a bunch of chicken thighs. Heat up one of those and eat it with a half of avocado. Slice one up and make a grilled chicken salad with avocado and a little ranch. Sol low carb bread and pimento cheese. Grill a bunch of hamburgers and have a bunless burger with cheese, avocado, bacon, etc. Lots of options man, but you have to meal plan. I prep for the week on Sunday afternoons.

Got to be careful on excess protein. It can kick you out of ketosis. Fats, fats, fats. It’s a **** hard concept to get your mind around when all we grew up hearing was how bad fat is for you. Good fats (not that processed crap) are where it’s at. My last two years of lab work is a testament to that.

My got to quick lunch is the Starkist Sweet & Spicy Tuna Pouch, add some mayo and use Pork Rinds to eat it. Or I'll take fresh lunch meat and cheese, lay a pickle in the middle, with some cream cheese, and roll it up. Fried eggs are easy also with some cheese, avocado, and fresh Pico.

Your Ketone issue sounds like maybe you weren't eating enough fats. I'd eat at least half an avocado with every meal.

Question for you all that have been successful.

How are you preparing your meals?

I've tried this in the past and used some program off the internet. They gave you a shopping list and the recipes. What I found so hard was the meal prep, so by the end of week 3 I drop their program.

My a1c is just over the max putting me in the pre-diabetic category, and my liver enzymes are high enough my PCP wants me to go see a liver specialist.

I've struggled with my weight to where I was worried I had become insulin resistant. Thus me asking my PCP to test my A1c.

In looking at what can be done about insulin resistance, I found KenDBerryMD's YouTube channel. He states his patients that have the greatest success in reversing insulin resistance follow the keto diet.

I need to drop about 100lbs, which I believe if I do most of my issues will go away with the weight.

This is a link I did a search on. I use carb manager app.

We have been doing it for about 3 years now. I quit tracking last year with everything going on and gained 8 lbs so I began tracking again this year. I have lost 13 lbs now and hit my goal weight of 200. I want more now.

I am Type 2 diabetic that has been off of meds for couple of years at least. I regularly test under 100. I had joined a keto group on Facebook that helped.

It takes getting used to and to become a routine but once you do, it gets pretty easy. We know no other way to eat. We eat pretty good IMO. We feel better.

Best of luck and ask questions where you can.
