If you want him, shoot him. If not, let him go. Forget the whole genetics thing, it's not going to matter one bit if he's in the herd or not. Nothing saying how successful a breeder he is or that he's passing on 'good' genetics (deer can breed up or down). If density is an issue and you need to shoot another buck, kill him. If not, let him go to maintain the age structure. The only way to truly maximize antler growth is to have deer dying of old age.
