    Bringing in alcohol from overseas

    Bringing in alcohol from overseas

I know that you can bring in two bottles each of alcohol from out of the country. So I have a question, bring in two bottles, my wife brings in two bottles, Can my 14-year-old and 11-year-old and eight-year-old bring in two bottles as well,

Don’t see why not if you’re accompanying them.

No, only 21+ can bring it in.

"Generally, one liter of alcohol per person may be entered into the U.S. duty-free by travelers who are 21 or older, although travelers coming from the U.S. Virgin Islands or other Caribbean countries are entitled to more. Additional quantities may be entered, although they will be subject to duty and Federal excise taxes, which will be assessed and collected at the Port of Entry.

It is illegal for travelers under the age of 21 to import alcohol - even as a gift."

        Guess I won’t try

I wonder what the taxes and fees are on a $60 bottle of liquor. Has any body ever paid duty

Nothing or next to nothing if you are within the limits. I dont remember paying anything coming through customs when I did it.

I am not sure what is legal, but my daughter brought me back a bottle of beer from Italy, when she went there. She was 18 at the time. Seems they don't care about what age or 18 is legal to drink over there. From what I gathered, her and the group she was with, all drank over there. I am not sure if the chaperone, actually took the beer through customs. Not sure how much more alcohol was brought back. I know I got one bottle of beer out of the trip.

these are duty free rules. I can / have shipped over cases of wine from Europe but paid tax.

Right, but the question was can kids bring in liquor so he can slip in under the duty limit.

You can bring in about as much as you want if you're at least 21, but after two bottles will be assessed duty.

Is it a hassle to pay duty taxes when entering

If I ran across a case of Blanton in Mexico I will see what the tax would be and is it difficult to go through the process 10 bottle as $60 a price for instance

When we were traveling in the Caribbean islands we were allowed 6 bottles per person of rum , my sister who was 17 was denied imports drinking age was 18 ,it’s now 21yo , I paid a $6 duty so I wouldn’t have to pour it out @ customs
Imports was super easy, declared and paid for the tax stamp put on each bottle
I have returned from Mexico and Canada with boat loads of prescription drugs for my grandparents, just need to be 18 and possess the original RX and make sure I declared them

I brought in 6 bottles of Blantons from Canada. They asked me if we had anything, and I told them 6 bottles. Myself and my wife. I’m guessing they weren’t too concerned being one bottle over each. They didn’t verify or anything else. Sent us on our way. This was driving though.

We (my wife and I) brought back 15 bottles of tequila, from Puerto Vallarta, a few years ago. We filled out the declaration amount, on the back of the custom's form, and they never even looked at it. We just got back from Cozumel, and the customs check point at IAH was a joke. One dude sitting there waving you through. We didn't even fill out a form, nor did they ask for one.

No. You can bring 50 bottles if you want, but only 2 are “duty free”

When we came back from Puerto Rico on the submarine I was on, our torpedoman Chief loaded one of the torpedo tubes with cases of rum. Everyone put in an order with him and he went to the factory and picked it all up. After the tube was loaded with rum they put the "Warning, warshot loaded" sign on the tube. When custom inspectors came down on the boat they weren't allowed to open that tube. Bicardi no limit, duty free.

Of course that doesn't apply to the OP, but every thread around here derails anyways, so....
