I grew up using sorels in the snow. Still have the high expedition for late elk seasons that I bought in the 80’s. Great boot for cold, snow as long as your not overly active. Down side in the drier areas are the fairly light rubber on the lowers. Cactus and thorns will go through the rubbers. Definitely not a hiking boot as far as I’m concerned as my feet will sweat when actively hiking and climbing. They are great for passive cold weather fun. As are other like boots.

I've owned a pair of Caribous since the early 80's. Great boot for heavy snow and low movement outings. They are heavy and clunky, so hiking with them is a chore. I usually put on a fresh coat of snow seal each year to keep the leather soft and pliable.
