I like the idea for a trigger.

    Interesting.

I have experienced many of these "issues" and here is my solution---free chain link fencing lining the inside of the trap, buried about 6-8" deep and wired to the panels. Top foot or so is left unwired and when they try to climb out, it flexes and they fall back into the trap. Does it work? Yep.

OP, I like your trip mechanism. Hadnt ever seen one like that.

Thanks! My engineer brother got involved and designed it. It’s the best I’ve ever seen. Little pigs can’t trip it. It takes a decent pig to root the tire and it seems like they eat the easy corn first before rooting the tire giving other pigs time to come in and eat.

I had to laugh at the 2x4 welded wire.

I do like the trigger. I use fishing string. Have a feeder in the middle of my trap with string across the back legs. I may switch it up.

Yeah... now I know. Original idea was to contain piglets. But that was before I understood what kind of war occurs when the trap shuts.

I do love the trigger. Best part of the trap. It’s precise and controllable and repeatable.

                  Good job.

If you think your trap is big enough it probably is not.

My drop gate is 10' wide. My trigger is 75' inside the trap.

Dustoffer's chain link is a great idea because it has some give to it and the holes are too small for striper to run through.

TP3 is right - often times trapped pigs that escape think they can do it again, especially in bigger traps that they can move around in. I trapped a sounder of stripers that slipped through the larger holes. So, I added welded wire on the bottom 2'. Then I trapped them again. But my trap is pretty big and I couldn't find them so I opened the gate. They ran out as evening came. I trapped them a 3rd time a week later. They went to new homes.

I learned that last year just about three seconds after my JRT launched himself off my Ranger and into the middle of two boar hogs. They wouldn’t exit the trap with a big fat guy hollering and cussing his dog while standing in the doorway, one of them tripped the trigger, and after about 5 or 6 minutes of pig/dog rodeo and poor marksmanship on said fat guy’s part, they finally ran out of steam (blood) and laid down. I only have one regret..........no video !

Lol!! I bet that was a heck of a show.

Solid advice on what kind of bucket not to soak corn in. Lol hard lesson learned there

That trigger might be fawn-proof if they have to move that heavy tire. Nice

I really like that trip wire idea. Just curious how it would work with no tree to anchor to?

Not sure. Maybe run the cable overhead to the back of the trap and use the TPosts or cattle panel as the anchor?
