    (MLD III I believe)
Dave, we were under MLD rules here at my local lease for a while. I don't think antler restrictions apply. Maybe someone will know for sure.

Brown will fall under the antler restrictions this year. I have mixed emotions, while it should protect a lot of bucks and allow them to mature it will also protect a lot of cull bucks that will never be legal to remove from the herd passing on their poor genetics for many years to come. The only buck I took this year was a cull that would now be protected for his natural life! Can’t help but feel I now have one hand tied behind my back to manage deer on my own land.

or you can shoot 2 spikes

Antler restrictions have improved hunting in Colorado, Lavaca and Fayette counties 10 fold. Not just size of bucks, but numbers of deer as well. I am 100% in favor of state wide antler restriction.

I would rather see poor genetics vs NO genetics!

Are you saying that there are places that have no breeding going on?

So, it looks like Brazoria County will fall under this too?

Shooting a one year old spike is like shooting a nubbin buck. At least with nubbin you can mistake it for a doe.

5 deer brother...read it again. They are taking those 3 and 4 deer counties and making them 5 deer counties.

MLD Level III have the buck harvest criteria set by the TP&W biologist. They will tell you what kind of restrictions you will have.

We were MLD. We had a quota for bucks and does per hunting area on Camp Bullis. 2 1/2 year old and ear wide is legal and a spike. Folks were dropping the first 2 1/2 yr old they saw. The buck quota for my area was done before the rut. Makes it easy to find good sheds, though. Found on 20 1/2" main beam, 6" G1, 6 3/4" G2, 4" G3. Could just touch my thumb and index finger around the base. Nice 4 1/2 yr old or better.
We've had years you had to shot a doe first.
