when i met my wife, over a decade ago, i took her hunting a month later... she had her very own 788 243 her dad got her.. i had never seen one. anyway, we went to the range a day before, to ensure her gun was zero'd....... i didn't have much faith, as it looked nothing like my mark v's/700's/v/g's... man, i shot a 3/4" 100yd 3 shot group. i started buying them in like new shape when the opportunity arose. 222/243/243/22-250. all shoot amazing...

      oh, not for sale!! sorry

I have one in .223 I bought at a gun show in 82'. Killed a many a coyote with that rifle and like others have said they are accurate as heck. I'll ponder this a while since I haven't shot it in years and decide if I want to sell it. We're a fur distance apart too!

Wouldn’t trade mine. My brother bought one that was rebarreled as 222 Mag.

I have a 788 in 6mm. My father gave it to me for Christmas at age 13. It's a track driver and a deadly whitetail rifle. About as plain a Monte carlo stock as has ever been produced, but, it's got to be one of the finest shooting rifles ever produced. I'd say it's the best rifle Remington ever produced. It's definitely a better and more accurate rifle than my 700 .270.... shooting nothing but stock 100gr Core-Lokt's.

No the "old" Senderos are the best but the 788 is a close second in accuracy... A 788 in 6mm has always been on my list of wants..

Dad bought a 788 in 222 Rem in 1969 at Gibson’s Sporting Goods in Brownwood. In came with a Gibson brand 4X scope, a box of 50 grain shells, & a plain Jane soft case for $98.00. Tax included. Since then you couldn’t put all the dead critters from it in a Railroad Car. A piece of our family history that 4 generations have all used to kill our 1st deer. Definitely not for sale!

Hehehe.....SO funny you should say that tax, I looked and looked and looked awhile back for a Sendero in 25.06. The problem, I shoot left handed. Man, did I want one and for years, but, no luck. So you'll get ZERO arguments from me.....Hehehe

I’ve got one in .308. Lefty too.

                          Don’t wanna sell. Just bragging.

The 788 was the first rifle that I ever bought. I am trying to think of where I bought it. May have been at a western auto. I just shot two deer with it yesterday on a refuge hunt and my brother is using it right now on the hunt as I write this. It has been a great gun over the years and actually the only 243 that I own as I bowhunt most of the time. Like most of the rest, not interested in selling as there is to much history in the gun but it’s good to hear that others like the gun as well.

They are sweet old school rifles.

I managed to pick up a couple on the cheap over the years.
