I have 2 solar powered Apollo openers on my gates. They were here when I bought the place, but other than replacing batteries and a worn out keypad, they have worked flawlessly. I’m pretty sure they are in the neighborhood of 14yrs old.

Apollo and US Automatic are the two that seem to get the most press.

If possible, go with the 110V unit with battery backup. My gate is heavy, heavy and I installed a US Automatics Patriot that has been perfect going on 4 years now. I had the welder use greasable hinges that are way stouter that I actually needed but I think that has really helped the opener out. The gate is 14' 6" wide and weight around 700 lbs.

I went with Ghost Controls. Haven’t installed yet but for the price and warranty, reviews, I like it.

I spent quite a bit of time researching gate openers and decided to go with Ghost Controls as well after the great reviews. They are kinda cutting edge in terms of newer technology with some cool features. It’s early yet but so far I couldn’t be happier. I went with a custom fabricated box (thanks spidermonkey [emoji122]) and a solar powered marine battery versus their smaller battery box. Installed everything myself...easy peasy! The wireless keypad and remotes work flawlessly.

On the whole, Ghost Controls makes a great product at a better valued price IMO. The quality of the machined parts are all heavy duty. There’s no cheap production parts here at all...really solid stuff! They have great technical support and excellent CS and a Lifetime warranty on their motor and gear assembly. I think it has like 18 months on everything else....maybe 2 yrs?

I’ve had mine for 6 years. I have the solar power one and still on the original battery with no problems.

I have had the same Apollo for 15 years but that Ghost setup looks nice.

The us automatic says only installed by dealers. Kind of a deal killer for us.

What do you mean Gary? My opener is a AS Automatics and I installed it myself. I had no problems getting support the one time I had to call them. They actually gave me their head guy’s cell number so I could call him after hours since I’m usually after closing time getting home.

US Autimatic !
Apollo not same as used to be, was once the best now lots plastic gears.
Chamberlain good but clunky and noisy.
Amazon and TSC openers are a joke !
Save yourself a lot of headaches and get a good one.
And yes I know about these, I do gates and entries for a living.

I went through 3 of these (board issues) before switching to Apollo. Their CS is horrific. They will not support the DIY’r.

Apollo is not the same as they use to be. I’ve got a 15 year old unit that works perfectly. We are lucky to get two years out of the new ones under heavy use.

Went with the US Automatics Patriot on mine and no regrets whatsoever. They are made right here in Texas!
