    Anyone Use FMJs?

Right now soft point/hollow point ammo in 223 is hard to find and priced well above the roof. FMJ more common and less expensive. Only thing I shoot with my AR is hogs---does the FMJ work ok? 95% of my hits are head shots, and few are 2d or 3d shots at runners after the first hog dies. I don't have any doubts about head shots, just the others--

I’ve shot a bunch of them. The closer the range the better, but they do just fine. Large wound channel due to speed.

I usually only take body shots. If I had to guess, I'd say I recovered 95% of the hogs that I know I made a good shot on. Blood trails suck most of the time though, usually. Using a mini 14 riffle.

I shoot FMJ’s out of my AR’s 95% of the time, mostly because I have a couple thousand rounds of them. As usual, shot placement is key. Killed this pig & 3 others the other night, all were 90-120 yards. Pics of the entry side.

They'll work. In my experience most fmj's ain't near as accurate though. Hog skulls are hard as all get out though so if you're head shootin them I think you'll be fine. Shots to the body may not be as productive but I bet you'll get pass throughs way more often. If you hit bone it'll probably make the bullet spin and keyhole out the other side. I don't normally advise shootin fmj's but on a heavier bodied animal like that you'd probably be better off than shootin a v-max or any other frangible bullet in .223 especially having to shoot through a shoulder or taking a shot on a hog running straight away from you.
