Thanks y'all. I'm glad he got him found. I still can't believe I was that close to it a few times and never saw him. But my buddy also said he found blood which I did not. But at 5:30 in heavy cover it's pretty dark. That's my excuse anyway......LOL

In all seriousness though I can't believe he found blood. But like I said it was 30 minutes until sun down so I knew he'd have a good chance of finding him once it was nice and bright outside. I just couldn't see under the cedar trees unless I crawled under them. I ain't tellin how fast he found it.....I appreciate him goin out there and making me look like the worse tracker of all time though. It got warm enough today if that cat had laid out there all day he'd be ruint.

This bobcat was actually a nuisance bobcat I got a call about. It has been terrorizing barn cats and other barn yard critters. I picked up some new huntin ground by taking him out. So everything worked out really good.

Next targets on that property are coyotes.

Many of them were recovered when still alive but would have suffered a miserable death.
If lots of hair, examine the color of the hair. If lot of white hair may have gone low and out of vitals.

I'll have to remember that about the fur if that ever happens again. Which it probably will at some point as we both know. If you shoot at very many it's bound to happen every now and then. Just hope it's not often. I'd prefer that it never does happen again but I don't know how that will turn out for me.

Looking back on it, it was mostly brown fur with some white fur mixed in. Which would make sense because the bullet exited at an angle where the white meets the brown fur. I'd honestly probably wouldn't have given that a thought had you not said that.

Looking back on it now I could have gotten that cat in closer had I wanted to. I saw an opportunity to shoot so I let one fly. If I'd have taken the shotgun like I initially planned I may have avoided potentially losing a cat. Tight cover is what a shotgun is for but I opted to take the rifle. I may start taking my 12 gauge as a dedicated bobcat gun since I'm normally in thick cover while calling for them. That would lower the risk of losing one quite a bit I believe.
