    WWII Japanese Swords info

Does anyone know anything about them?
A friend bought one its it's definitely old (I'll believe ww2 or ww1),
    I Think its real.
    It's Damascus .
I cant decode any of the writing on the blade or hilt.
We might bring it to collectors firearms this week.
Is there a better place to go around Houston?
    Thanks

I’d like to see the pics or any info. Dad has one my grandad brought back from the South Pacific. I don’t think it’s anything special, but I’d like to know if the steel is any good.

He and I want to have custom knives made from it, but momma shut that down right quick.

An acquaintance of mine used to collect WWII paraphernalia. I ran across a couple he said were complete fakes, lol. He said those type of swords can be extremely hard to value, some are worth hundreds, some are worth thousands (2-3) and some are collector items.

Sounds like the sword value is based in part on who the maker was, and the manufacture process-machine made, hand made, hand made using traditional methods and sources, etc. Need an expert to distinguish the maker's mark and manufacture method to determine real value. Some were officer swords, others made for NCO's and still more made for the post WWII occupation US crowd.

Good luck, no matter the value I think they are are really cool to display.

Japanese Damascus would be rare, typical technique is sanmai or layered to be uniform..... Katana and wakizashi are normally done in symmetrical layers. Is it stainless, carbon steel or other? Japanese love carbon steel but it tends to discolor over time.

was going to say about the same thing. Damascus was stopped long before the war. to heat treat just the edge was normal around the time. but dont take it to a pawn shop.
