Ranch Cook Shack - in closed carport???

Hey guys so we are wanting to put up a cook shack / hang out area at the lease to get out of the wind and weather. We are looking at having a 20x20 carport put up and enclosing 3 sides.

    Has anyone done this?
    How did it turn out?
Which way did you face the open side? We were originally thinking face the open side south but now we are thinking either east or west to block both a south or north wind.

    Any ideas, suggestions, or thoughts??

Ours is open to the southeast. Southern winds can cool during the summer and winter winds are blocked. We built a small wind block on the side of our gas cook top to help with the windier days.

I too would face the opening to the south. I bought one of the Superior Carports 18 x 21 out of Victoria, Tx. They used to be advertised for 595.00 including install. Its been a good carport, held up very good. Its about 22-23 years old and I have moved it 2x's and its still in great shape.

Ours is only closed in on the northwest end, an part of the northeast side. We tie up a tarp across the rest of the NE side when the north wind blows cold. I would not want it enclosed all of the time. 3 sides enclosed is gonna get HOT in the summer.

We put up one of those cheaper carports years ago an I had put crushed granite on the inside. The walls I used treated deck boards, and wood to metal screws. We left the north and south open so during summer we get a good breeze in the shade and winter we put up a heavy tarp on the north side.

              This.

Our “camp” is an old hay barn that’s only walled on the north side. Makes for some nice breeze from the west most of the year.

We did and it turned out great. Certainly helps to have people who know how to do the build out...

The panel to the right of the TV folds shut and latches, to keep moisture off the TV. We have a spool under there, and a stainless table at the back. You can see the stove and grill. These pics are in random sequence....just what I could find.

These are old, but show the layout better.

We are cheap - this is what our redneck camp has come up with.
