    lame deer

I had a deer come out on Sunday morning and he was limping real bad. I looked through my binos and his front leg was broken just below the joint and looked like he had a puncture wound above the break. He was a spike with only one horn. The other was broken off. I put him down and used one of my tags on him. Didn't know if I had to use a tag if I called a GW but to be on the safe side I did.

I did that last year on my actual legal buck tag. One came in limping really bad and could barely move. Car hit of some sort and just felt back for him. Not a buck I would have shot until the next couple of years. I shot it, so I had to use my tag. They told me, nature would have taken care of it later if I didn't. But since I shot it, it was on me to tag it.

This was his frt. leg. He had been dragging it for a while

He most likely would have been just fine. They are pretty resilient creatures.

I think you did the right thing. I did the same on a 8 pt, 14" buck a few years ago in SNF. Crippled front paw. Might have made the following years but I turned it into venison.
