    Bacon seeds...anyone?

I know a farmer who is getting rid of his herd and is practically giving me 3 or 4 little pigs. These are heritage breed ossabaw island hogs which have some of the best meat. If anyone saw my thread on roasting a whole one these are the same pigs. My only dilemma is I don't have the space to feed them out for a few months. I figured I would ask someone who has land would they be interested in splitting feed cost and meat. I will handle the butchering part and cut to order anything you want at no charge. Only charge would be getting the pigs slaughtered and scalded which is cheap. If anyone has interests in learning how to butcher, make bacon, sausage, hams, or cured meats I would be happy to show you how. Pigs are located in Plantersville but I'm Rosharon so I'm willing to transport them. Anyone interested let me know... Thanks!

Me too! I have chickens and rabbits but I don't have the space for pigs. If I can't find anyone I'll be bringing them home to butcher myself. A baby whole roasted pig sounds better than eating a Turkey for Thanksgiving.

I have property in Montgomery country and have some interest in this but would need to know more details. I dont mind sharing the cost and we would need to build a pen, I have some t posts and one cattle panel left so would need to get some more equipment. I have a water trough as well. I dont live on the property right now but am only 20 min away. My worry would be how often they need to be fed, and checked on. We might be doing some traveling over the holidays and you live a good hour and a half away it looks like.

Yea building a pen wouldn't be the hard part. It would be checking on them and feeding them daily. And I'm an hour away which would make it hard for me to do.

                  Learn something new every day.

I have hunted Ossabaw Island and killed hogs and deer(the deer are tiny). I never knew there was actually a breed of Ossabaw Island hogs.
                  I had to Google it.

If you ever get the chance, Ossabaw Island is a beautiful place.

The only place I have ever hunted out of a palm tree and on the beach.

I've read alot about the breed and how they were brought to ossabaw island. I would love to see that place.

Hit me up next summer for projects like this. I will be living out there full time. Might be picking up 20 acres of pasture as well next door if the economy doesnt melt down.

I definitely will. I'm looking for a few acres to lease around me so I can feed them out for a few months. That's if I can find something..
