I remember when that cat was killed near Jasper, and also the one that was killed around Ratcliff. In 1980, there were 3 killed in Nacogdoches. The biggest, a 160 lb male, was in the local paper. Many more have been seen through the years in Nac county.

Highly feasible and highly likely....they've been proven to travel well in excess of a thousand miles.... several hundred is quite common.

I've never seen one for sure, but I want to so bad I can't stand it.

I have no doubt they reside, or travel in most Texas counties.

I have seen tracks in Young county, Hall county, Stonewall county, and Andrews county...of all places. One of which was shot and killed. When you see a track, there is no doubt what they are.

I grew up on the edge of the Big Thicket National Preserve and know for a fact there was at least one there because my Dad and I found him dead on 146 near Rye when I was 17. He must have just been hit by a car because he wasn't even stiff. There was no gunshots or visible damage other than a bloody mouth. Another truck pulled up behind us and the guy asked my Dad if we were gonna keep it. He said he would like to get it mounted. My Dad had no interest in keeping the cat as we were too poor to take anything to a taxidermist. The guy loaded the cat and left. That was in 1996 before cell phones. I don't imagine that there are many around or there would be more caught on game cameras or killed. With that said, I have zero doubt that there are some because I've seen it with my own eyes, not a secondhand story.

I live in Votaw. That’s only 6 miles from where you saw the dead one. I do not believe they live out here anymore. They absolutely use to though. I’ve had a handful of sightings growing up out there. Biggest cat in the woods now days is a bobcat.

Wish TPW printed a booklet instead of wasting resources on that map

My first and only sighting was in Young Co., about 10-12 years ago. Spotted at a lease we had at FM 67 and CR 166. Hunting buddies were skeptical that evening. They became believers the next day once seeing fresh tracks in the mud at one of our ponds.

Had a group of them in Dacus several years ago. Mom, dad and kittens.

Forgot to mention my wife and I saw one on Creighton road in Conroe.

I'd imagine they could be in any country in the State. I've been hunting prime Cat habitat for 25 plus years and have never seen one, but Joe Blow has has 15 sightings in the last 2 years and 4 of those were black.... hmmm

I saw one about 32 years ago at a lease we had off of 1488 and Peoples Road in Montgomery County.

Very true. The season opened last weekend, and continues every Friday and Saturday night through the end of December.

I bait them Cougars with Vodka & Tonic in Montgomery County. But be careful; some cats carry diseases!

I want to see one by chance so bad! I hunted outside where I'd think lions are for most of my life in Concho county. But I hunted 2 years in Freer, where I saw tracks 2 different times in 2 years. Now I'm hunting in Uvalde, and I've got 2 lion pics sense July. I'm hoping we can make something happen on a cat this year. We know who to call with a dog, so we just need to be at the lease and find some recent sign.
