ON X question

Here’s the question
Looking through my onx I see several ( like 25 ) properties listed as State of Texas. They range from 20 acres to 400+. Are these properties people willed to the state or properties otherwise taken by the state?
Anyone know?

I suspect the state buys old farms or ranches when they come up for over due taxes, unclaimed property, no heirs, etc.

Kind of what I’m thinking but the state has no money and
If they buy property it should be open to public access.
I realize that’s a pipe dream
