Wow! I might have missed it but what broadhead were you shooting? I didn’t say it but I thought little high but still got both lungs and he’s dead. Thanks for posting, I’ve been doing this for almost 40 years and you just never know for sure.

For several years when the Hagerman hunt started I believe 1982 I assisted at the Hagerman check station my job was finding lost deer and hunters. I was amazed at some of the shots that brought deer down quickly and at some of the shots that it seems would bring them down right away but I tracked for hundreds of yards.

A deer with two huge holes in it, will die soon after, of infection. I shot a nice 8 pt in nearly the same spot, trailed it for 250 yds and blood ran out. I hunted the same stand one week later, nothing. The following weekend was opening day for rifle and I hunted the same stand. As soon as I could see, I saw the 8 pt, lying dead about 100 yards from the stand. After the hunt, I went over, and yep, it was him. This guy lived at least 1 week after I shot him and the wound was where I thought it was. Void. Infection. Dead. Me sick.
