I think the warden should have educated the guy instead of arresting. Maybe there is more to the story but c'mon....by his own admission....the law was intended to curb market hunting. Spirit of the law vs letter of the law. I'd be pizzed.
You don't have to have a taxidermy license to sell parts of wildlife. Anyone buying fur needs to have Fur Dealers License. But any part of those animals may be sold or bartered excluding the fur of course. Assuming the person selling or whatever have their ducks in a row. Game Wardens don't always know the law like they should. I could almost recite the rules word for word because I have to know. Seems reasonable that they should too.
Like it says it's an outdated law. If someone spends money to go out and hunt seems like they should be able to do whatever they want with what they kill.
Basically what got him in trouble was selling antlers with the skull plate attached. The taxidermy license bit is BS. I've sold hundreds of dead coyotes and I don't have a taxidermy license. But the guy I sell them to has a fur dealers license.
