    Spot and Stalk

Are there any good books to read about spot and stalk hunting for Deer and Hogs?

I wish I knew of some. I've been spot and stalking exclusively for the last 11 years and I don't want to hunt any other way.

I really don't care how anyone else hunts. Its just a lot more rewarding to me. And is truly HUNTING..

Good glass, good position, lot of homework and even more patience.

Problem with it is room. If you're on a lease without a lot of space, you can become really unpopular spotting and stalking or still hunting when you scare off the game. In "the old days" that's all we did. We also had a place that we hunted in the off season for exotics where all we did was still hunt, spot and stalk, and put on minidrives. It's how I killed all my auodad and corsicans and a fallow that was once the LSBA record. It's fun, but not practical on a lot of ranches. If you're just looking to kill an animal and you don't have to be careful as far as age or size or not kill the wrong animal, it can work. Same thing with wandering with tubes and rattling horns. It's a lot of fun to do, but for what I'm hunting, it's not practical.

For javelinas and hogs, it can be a great way to hunt. Corn up a lot of roads and senderos and then go back over them. See hogs or javelinas, figure out the best approach and get after them. When we guide rifle hunters, most of our deer are killed spotting and stalking. We find the deer, figure the best route, go in the brush and hopefully get in range of them before they roam off.

look in the traditonal catalogs like 3 rivers, kustom king, etc. G Fred Asbell has a book called Stalking and Still hunting and The Ground Hunters Bible. I think those are the names but there are others.
