Speed limit goes from 75 to 55 over a pretty good distance, don't even have to tap the brakes, that ain't a speed trap. Now some of the ones on 59 are another story.

Seems like it would be easy enough to move once someone marked you.
From what I understand Police do use that app also and can remove themselves from being spotted. But, as soon as another Wazer sees them the location goes back up. Cat and mouse to some respect.

The car north of town by the beer barn has been just sitting there as a decoy a few months now. They did use to sit there and get people, but I guess they are short handed. One will sit outside of town on the road from Lampasas to San Saba as well.

            "Lometa with a population of 782 is located at 31°13′5″N 98°23′34″W (31.218129, -98.392916).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2), all of it land."

            Nope, its a speed trap.

            ================

"Apr 8, 2007 — Texas' speed-trap law uses an indirect approach to discourage small towns from relying too heavily on traffic tickets. Under the law, which applies to towns of fewer than 5,000, nearly all traffic fines that exceed 30 percent of a city's previous year's total general revenues must be paid to the state." https://www.chron.com/news/houston-t...ls-1842580.php

You can get the records from previous years and make Lometa pay the state. And you could lobby State Lawmakers to increase the level of discouragement for tiny towns, .09 square miles....SMH

It's been that way for as long as I can remember. We have a place east of Lometa and I never understood why we went the back way to it, instead of going through town as a kid, but now I see why lol.

We have one in Smiley too. School zone on hwy 87. The district gets kids that can't behave from other districts and buses them here and let's them off at the building. They are no where near the highway. The cop sits there every morning and afternoon and writes tickets.

You get to confirm the speed traps or confirm the speed trap is gone. Mark other hazards, like debris in road, road kill, traffic, road construction, stalled vehicles etc. All in real time. Provided you have a phone signal.
I am not advocating speeding or breaking laws. I just like road info in real time and do NOT like traps.

I am a big time WAZE user anytime I travel more than 20 miles from the house. I have two LEO buddies that run speed in our local towns and they like it. The more users are pinpointing their locations, ultimately the speed is reduced and they have accomplished their goal of making the town safer. At least that is what they tell me, lol.

I use it all the time travelling in Louisiana, especially going to Alexandria. That is one long speed trap all the way up there.

I just wish there were more users early in the morning and late in the evening. To me, that is the weak spot but I am sure it's just where I am travelling at the time.

As an officer I know that I use it..... when I am out of town driving and want to avoid the local constabulary.

CB radios were even better. A few years before I became a police officer I saw a DPS trooper on television during the CB craze. They were asking him of his opinion and he thought it was a greatest thing in law enforcement. He said that he could run radar in an area for 10 minutes and then leave. He could come back that afternoon and listen in on the CB radio and they were still giving “smokey” reports where he had not been for hours. He said that he slowed down traffic at several locations every day and all day and places he’s only been for a brief period.

I guess from a trooper standpoint, it was a great deal.

It's always a trap when someone gets caught doing something they shouldn't be doing. 12 years LEO. I have deserved it every time I have been stopped.

I saw that this passed Saturday. A state trooper was sitting just south of them too.
