    CRAZY Water valve question?

Wife got a call from the water district at our old house we are remodeling and about to sell to say we had a leak filling up the ditch. She relayed message to me, which I immediately asked if they shut it off? Finally get guy to call me and he says your meter is spinning like CRAZY! I asked did you shut it off? He’s say I will if you want me too, i of course say YES!! Leak was coming from an RV hook up I put in after Harvey that was tied to a fence post that leaned over a little during last hurricane. Water district is saying 47,000 gallons leaked out that I am responsible to pay the bill for.

K here is the crazy part, I just had a bunch of plumbing work done 2 weeks ago, and told them after they were done to leave water shut off as no one is living there. Last week I checked it and water was off, even had a co worker of mine who is a plumber with me looking at the work that was done he saw water was shut off. So how did the valve get back on? I went back today with my co worker a plumber and he turned the valve on, at first it wouldn’t turn then when it finally did it pooped loose and will free spin 360 degrees and is leaking out the top of itself, he obviously said that valve is broken etc. The water district says they didn’t turn it back on? So did some random passerby turn my water back on?

Or is it possible the faulty valve somehow turned itself back on? Anyone ever hear of this happening before?

If it was that bound up, here is what I think could have happened.....plumbers turned off water to perform work. Then turned on water to test their work. Then, went to turn off water, but it got bound up before being fully turned off.

This sure sounds possible to me.

We have valves that leak by all the time. It's industrial settings but still valves. If they won't work with on the valve they should at least discount the water like filling a pool.

Is it not in a box that requires a meter key to open? A valve isn't just going to turn itself on.

I just had a leak at the cabin where the water ran for 10 days. Water bill was $1423. Called the water coop and they knocked $150 off. Better than nothing. Make sure and call and ask for a discount.

I spoke with guy who runs it, didn’t sound like he was going to offer a discount.

I know at the city I have saw them waive high bills like that, they will do a three month average. Stay on them because they're in the business of selling water.

Never had the city cut me any breaks on water bills years ago. We used to have problems with cattle, busting the water line. sometimes it would leak for weeks or months before I knew I had a leak. But then other times, it would get busted wide open and flowing a lot, those times, it was obvious, I had a leak, no water pressure. I got $600 water bills, $680 water bills, $800 water bills, then a $1200 water bill. I think the worst was either $1600 or $1700. On those bills, they would call me and tell me I had a week to pay or they were going to shut my water off. They did not cut me any breaks.

Hopefully things go better for you.
