    Needing Remington 1100 experts

I own 4 older 1100, two 12ga and two 20ga. All have fixed chokes and are for 2 3/4 shells. All have vented ribs, not the older round barrels. Question #1. Can I buy a new barrel with screw in chokes to replace the fixed choke barrels, will the new barrels fit in the older guns?
Question #2- can I get a barrel that’s fitted for 3” chamber and shoot 3” shells or is the main action on the gun going to be to small? Looking for option to update the older guns.

No (in most cases) on getting a 3” barrel and shooting 3” shells. The receiver has to be 3” rated. Not 100% sure but I think an “M” at the end of the serial # is 3” chamber.

For the 12gauge guns barrels are interchangeable - new one about $250.

For the 20’s the barrels are different for the older LW guns. If you have an LT20 new barrels will work.

any competent gunsmith can measure the barrel wall thickness and confirm if the original barrel can be fitted for screw-in choke tubes. Prices vary and should be around $100. Choke tubes prices start around $20-$25. Other options to consider would be lengthening the forcing cone and installing a Bradley bead and center bead.

I had Briley out of Houston cut down a 30” fixed choke barrel and machine for screw in chokes. This was about 10 years ago and was about $300-$350. It also included 3 or 5 chokes I believe.

I know this isn’t exactly what you are wanting, but maybe it will give you a good reference in expenses.
