    Cell Camera Antennas

Well I bought the Reveal and I was having mixed results where I put it out at, so I bought the bingfu and now the consistency of received pictures seems worst yet the camera actually finds signal when it's in the "setup" mode. Also, I checked cards this weekend and noticed some pictures that I hadn't seen via the app. So I'm in a pickle, is the camera bad or is the antenna bad.

1.) Has anyone tried just buying some RF coaxial and raising the factory antenna up 10'? I'm going to assume it won't work but for 11$ it's an easy try.
2.) Has anyone tried another cheaper omni directional unit?
3.) Has anyone had success with a cheaper directional unit?

There's both a omni and directional unit from Wilson (700-1200MHZ, 50 Ohm) for around 55$ but I couldn't find anywhere where someone had tried them on a game camera.

I bought the bingfu for my SPYPOINT that is not sending and all it does now is goes straight to red light. Doesn’t even search. Just about done with SPYPOINT’s crap.

When you got to your camera's settings, what kind of signal strength does it show?

Where I had it last week it was showing "strong" after I moved it saturday it is now showing "moderate." However I had it in the same spot without the bingfu and it was reading "strong" but still was inconsistent with the picture sending. Worst part is I know I can move it around the feeder roughly 70' away from it's current location and it will work just fine...but it's facing away from where majority of the deer are coming from, dang it!

Try a different sd card or reformat it . I have 3 reveals and one stopped sending pics . Changed the sd card and now no more problems . If it shows decent signal could be something else .

I have had the Reveal out since July and havent had any issues, but my signal has always been very strong or strong. I think there is a FB page for Reveal users, and someone on there might have some suggestions.

I use BingFu on a 10 ft T-post on both of my Coverts. They work great for me.

Interesting, worth a shot! Can you reformat the SD from within the camera setup mode on the physical camera?

Uh oh, thats not good for me. I thought you were having good luck with adding the antenna. lol

I will be watching this one for updates and what I might need to do with the Reveal I just bought.

Also, is the SD card you put in the camera a "class 10" SD card? The website seems to mention this specifically for some reason.

From what I found, the camera does not offer an option to reformat the SD card. It will require a computer for this.

Even though the manual says in the troubleshooting section,

"CAMERA STOPS TAKING IMAGES OR WON’T TAKE IMAGES
                      1. Please make sure that the SD card is not full. If the SD card is full, the camera will stop taking
images. User can turn on Cycle Recording to avoid such problems.
                      2. Make sure that alkaline, or NiMH AA batteries have enough power for the camera to work.
                      3. Make sure that the camera power switch is in the “On” position and not in the “Off” or “Test”
                      mode.
                      4. Please format the SD card with the camera before using or when camera stops taking images."

I also have two BingFu's up and they are working well - one down in a creek bottom. They will increase a signal and help in transmission but you have to have decent signal strength to start with - it can't pull in a signal that is not there. For example even though the Verizon coverage map shows excellent strength in our area the Verizon model of the CellLink don't make a connection even with an antenna. Fortunately the AT&T version of Spypoint do great for us.

Don't freak out yet...I'm wondering if it's a camera issue and you may not even have these issues. I know it's not an issue where the camera isn't taking pictures, it is taking them it's just that transmission is inconsistent. For example I had three deer at the feeder this morning and it sent one picture then thirty minutes later it sent a picture of the last deer leaving. Maybe I'm setting the camera outside of it's detection range. Who knows.
