    Non-Hunting Rant

I am trying to be better as I get older, and I know times are tuff and I am fortunate. Today, man standing on corner reading “Homeless Vietnam Vet, please help.” I was stopped and had a couple of dollars in change so dropped him what was in ashtray. He thanked me and I noticed thru the mask, hat and sunglasses he was younger than me and I asked him how old he was. Almost 50 he says, and I asked him if he studied any history in school because the Vietnam War ended in 1975 and he would have been would have only been 5-years-old at that time. He turned and retreated quickly back to the corner where his backpack was located, picked it up and walked towards the QT.

    Scammers, got to love them.

Last year a man approached me at a convenience store and told me he needed a meal badly. His severely bloodshot eyes suggested a different story. My gut told me he was lying. I normally won’t give money but went ahead and handed him just $5. He later attempted to sneak out the door hoping I wouldn’t notice the bottle of liquor in a paper bag that he was trying to hide.

I stopped giving to the Beggers, not just because of similar reasons but also it seems they are to comfortable asking for hand outs. I will give to the person selling drinks ( bottled waters , Gatorade or cokes) there is an intersection off off the hardy toll road that has a guy doing this . Now I do help with homeless people if I see them just traveling through , some have interesting stories and actually have chosen to live the (HOBO) lifestyle.

I don't give cash for that very reason, they're all scamming to support a habit!

Same thing happened to me. Except I told him to come into the store with me. I got a pint of milk ,a couple of sandwiches and a couple of bananas. Set them on the counter and paid the clerk. Handed him the sack and it was worth it to see the look on his face.

We have them really bad in town, and I hate seeing them running these scams on the public. Ours seem to be well-organized sometimes. If you look closely they have plenty of warm clothes - designer jeans, quality jackets and backpacks, and nice footwear. I have personally watched a lady driver in a car drop them off at selected corners and entrances to malls or grocery stores, anywhere people might still have cash available to give them. They seem to do 2-4 hour shifts.

The guys handing out slips of paper and walking around with tea pitchers full of money seem to have run off the panhandlers around us. I don't know what they claim to be collecting for but they are relentless. Wife will go a mile down the road and u-turn to avoid them.

I carry food in my truck for myself so if a beggar comes up I usually give em an apple or granola bar I don’t want to see someone hungry.Ive had guys tell me the truth about buying alcohol so I’ll give em a few bucks because they were truthful.

If they can ask you for money they can ask you if you want fries with your burger. Get a job!
