A few weeks ago I noticed that our Kenmore Stand-up Freezer was not cooling like it should. I got it cleaned out and unplugged for a 2-3 weeks. Just started messing with it last night.
On this unit the compressor is located/accessed at the bottom rear. The coils and fan are located/accessed at the interior (take off internal back panel).
To start, I plugged the unit in. Fan kicked on and I let it sit for a bit. After 15-20 minutes I open up the unit and only warm air was coming out of the vent location. Coils were room temp to the touch. I turned the thermostat to Off. A few minutes later the coils were cold to the touch and frosting over. I turned the thermostat back on and closed it up and waited 15-20 minutes. Opened it back up and coils are no longer cold and only hot air flowing. I unplugged the unit while I was checking wire connections. I did not pull or unplug any wires, at least that i am aware of. I was basically just visually inspecting with flashlight. Once done, I plugged the unit back in and nothing would kick on. No fan, no clicking of any kind, nothing. The light bulb was already out, so i am not sure if I am getting power to the unit or not.
For the sake of discussion, let's say the light bulb is "on" and I am getting power. Is there a particular component that would cause the situation described above? Any other components to check out?
The unit is roughly 20 years old, so i am not looking to spend much on repair. I am just trying to figure out what is going on here and hoping for an inexpensive fix.
Thanks.
