Book suggestions to read to my son

I have a son that is 8 and we are past the children's books at night. So far I have read 3 of the Harry Potter books to him, about to start #4. I took a break from those once a read him Old Man and the Sea. I've read Robert Ruark's The Old Man and the Boy and may read that one to him. Any suggestions?

my wife went through all the harry potter books with our 8yr old daughter over the last several months. after that was done, they started on the hobbit.

I am reading the Narnia books with her, through 3 of them and just getting onto the next one

How about a few old but timeless tales? "Call of the Wild" and "White Fang" by Jack London were written over 100 years ago but they hold up very well - reading them as a kid got me hooked on outdoor adventure stories. Another old one "The Jungle Book" written in 1894 by Rudyard Kipling would be a good choice for bedtime because they are a bunch of short stories.

Same! I think Call of the Wild was the first “real” book I ever read. Me and my dog Tippy spent a lot of time in the woods of East Montgomery County, pretending to be in the Yukon![emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

If you want "outdoors" type books....

                  x2 on Gary Paulsen plus:
"Where the Red Fern Grows" and
                  "My Side of the Mountain"

Empire of the Summer Moon would be riveting to them. Of course they'd never sleep again.

Loved that book when I was in 5th grade. Made me want to go hollow out a tree in the woods for a shelter and just live off the land...lol.

I also recommend any works of J Frank Dobie or Fred Gipson.
