    ? Bowhunting less than 10 acres.

    I have exactly 6.46 acres and it is stated on the paperwork to be in "such and such subdivision." I have neighbors, but they are not close and I have deer crossing my place pretty regular. PLUS, we are not any where close to any city limits. I can see rifle blinds on a lot of the places around me, but I know from looking at the CAD plots they are on bigger pieces of property. I want to put up a feeder and bowhunt my place. How do I know if I am on the legal side to do so? I will contact my neighbors to see if they have a problem with me bowhunting and possibly having to track a deer on their property.

    Do I contact the area GW or someone else. I have read the regs, but not sure if the County Clerk will have any idea what I am asking them. Help would be appreciated.

    I’d go with GW first because they’re usually easy to reach, then try county office.

      If you have a homeowner's association, check with them, some have no hunting ordinances.

      I killed a doe on my friends place, the neighbor saw me loading it up and called the sheriff. Sheriff told him to call the game warden. Game warden says, "is it tagged?" "Yes", then it's legal says the warden. A couple of days later my friend gets a letter from the homeowner's association assessing a $1000 fine! Because they had a no hunting ordinance in effect.
      He got it down to $250 but we stopped hunting there.

        It is unlawful to:
        hunt in a subdivision on lots 10 acres or less in an unincorporated area of a county if prohibited by local ordinance. Contact local county clerk and ask about §235.022, Local Government Code.
        hunt anywhere by means or methods that have been prohibited by county or city ordinance.

        So contact the county clerk to find out if there are any restrictions in your area. I hunted on five acres for 26 years with no problems. Definitely have permission from neighbors to cross property lines. I’ve never had a deer go more than a hundred yards so I didn’t have an issue with neighbors but I still had permission just in case.

          This is correct. I recently called the game warden to see if I could hunt at home on 9 acres and he said to contact the county. As long as there is not a local ordinance against hunting in my area, then I’m legal to hunt.

              When I lived 6 miles up the road from you on 5 acres I hunted it all the time. I called the local game warden and told him what I had and he said go for it. Said I was in the country, and not in a subdivision your good to go. I just told him if he was good with it so was I.

                  Heck. That’s still cheaper than a lease somewhere.

                      Go for it. A neighbor to my lease hunts on his 1/3rd acre bordered by railroad tracks, CR, and my lease. Has a box stand and a feeder.

                          It's legal, but taking a pretty big chance of the deer winding up on someone else's property, before it goes down. You could do like a buddy of mine did and shoot them in the spine. Dropped the deer where it stood.

                          If it were me, I would use a rifle and pick my shots carefully. Do my best to make sure it drops on the spot.

                              The best thing to do is talk to your neighbors and explain the situation. I.E. its with a bow you are only allowed to shoot so many deer in a season, its not like you are shooting one every day.... etc. Try to avoid the side of the property that borders those that seem most uncomfortable about it. It's about respecting your neighbors, not judging them for there feelings/beliefs. You should be good.
