Just came down off the mountain. Shot this 6x7 bull last night. Bugled him in over water late in the day. Shot was 59 yards. He ducked a bit, so the entrance was a tad high, but he was downhill from me, so all in all, it was a good shot. With it getting dark fast and not much blood to trail, I backed out and came back this morning. It was a sleepless night.
About 2 hours of tracking very little blood, I almost gave up. Thats when I found him. Bears got to him and took a back quarter from me, but I was able to save most of it. I spent the last couple hours packing him out and now I'm in Craig, CO, and have him on ice.
Solo/DIY archery elk hunts are tough, but i will do this every year until my body can't do it any more. This feeling i have right now (emotionally and physically) just can't be explained.
