    Painting a truck $?

What would be an average cost on getting a truck repainted? Everything nowdays is either red, white, black, silver or charcoal. I'm kicking around the idea of going Kelly Green on my '13 Chevy. I had a '74 that color and miss it. Need to bring some color back into the world! Not looking for a show quality, just a good daily driver job. I probably can't afford it, but ya never know.

I may be able to lend some advice here as I painted vehicles for a living for some time about 8 or 10 years ago. The one thing to understand here is what is the condition of the paint currently. If its decent and not peeling etc then the painter can sand it thoroughly, apply a sealer primer, and paint it. If there are dents and dings u want to be repaired along the way thats gonna take additional labor and materials. If you are gonna cough up the money to have it painted id strongly advise not painting over a bunch of door dings and such as its gonna look like hell with fresh paint. Next keep in mind the base coat and clearcoat itself is super pricey depending on the quality and paint manufacturer u choose to use. What a lot of folks don't realize is the labor that goes into removal and installation of the components to paint it properly. For the paint to adhere to all the cracks and crevices these items must be removed to sand and paint well. Think of all the door handles, rubber and belt molding, lights, bumpers, mirrors and door cladding. Take a good look at the car in the pic i posted and notice how disassembled it is. Look at the degree of masking involved and imagine how much tkme goes into it..
If its not prepped correctly it will just peel around all those edges. Last and most importantly if you are considering a color change - lord jesus if u want it done right - get ready to pay. They will want to remove the doors and hood and bed to be able to spray behind the cab and in the jambs so when u pop the hood or open the doors the truck isn't another color inside. At a reputable shop that's doing quality work they are gonna want 3k or more easy. If u just want the quickie job where they dont even wash the car first and just tape over everything and paint it, be prepared for issues later and never i repeat never take a wand from the pressure washer car wash place to it. Hand wash only after the quickie cheap paint job.

Oh. I realize the work involved. It has been many years since I have heard prices on getting it done.

I would charge $5000 to color change a new 4 door Chevy fresh off the lot.. i would prefer black for obvious reasons doing a color change. Makes like easier doing engine bay, fender well ect.

Maybe wrap it instead. Ride around with the new color, and when you get tired of it or want to sell the vehicle, just peel it off and brand new original paint is underneath.
