    Cows at my feeder!!!!

I know there has probably been discussions on this before and I understand the landowner can run cows all they want.

Here’s my problem. I have a West Texas Feeder broadcaster that is top of the line. Maybe too good because it shoots corn about 30-40 ft which sends it out past the pen so the cows are naturally going to eat it.

All my camera pics are cows and hogs and a few deer at night.

Anybody have any issues like this or ideas on something to maybe keep the feed from slinging so far?

    Thanks in advance.

we put up metal flashing on the bottom of the feeders to make the corn fall straight down and keep it in the feed pens .

Get the Timer and turn it to low or medium and you should be good to go.

Like said above, figure out a way to put some kind of guard up, around the spinner plate area, some sheet metal or something.

Does the new Timer have a speed setting because the older ones do not. I know the All Seasons timers have a speed setting because I have them on my protein feeders. Either way its a good suggestion to try to find one with a lower speed setting.

Second... OP....cows have a hard time picking up individual kernels although some manage. I'd bet they are smelling it more than anything versus eating it all... I have cows come to my local pig feeder with a Covert wireless camera and they stand there for 30 minutes looking like they are eating and leave with corn still on the ground. Pigs clean up after they leave.

Third ...Build a bigger pen is another option...

                .
you are correct. I am confusing the Timer with the ASF timer.

Thanks for the replies. I am using “The Timer”, not at the lease now so not sure if it has speed settings. Just put a lot of work in to stabilizing the pen so the metal flashing idea is looking like my best option.

Jones, did you just wrap a strip of sheet metal around the bottom of the barrel?

But like you said, it may be the smell.

BTW, I recently started putting protein pellets out w corn so?....? TTT

Get one of the timers that lets you lower the speed. I have them and they are great. I run my on the highest setting, though, because mine are stand and fill so I need some speed to get the corn to spread out. On low I suspect it won't go more than 10 or 15', even from high up as, well, gravity sucks.

We cut a 5 gallon bucket and put it on the inside of the cage. You can do the same with some sheet metal. Cut it just small enough to fit inside your cage. Curl it to put it in and it will naturally want to open so it will stay without anything to secure it. Plus it acts as a dinner bell and keeps the coons from spinning the feeder plate.

The timer is a heavy slinger. The ASF timer is noticeably slower on the low setting. For $29-39 at Bucees its worth a shot.

yes I put like galvanized roof flashing around the barrel with self tapping screw.
it has to be replaced every few years its crazy how the corn hitting it bends it up so bad .

Put a varmint cage on it. It will knock the corn down.

Another on for the flashing or some type of downward deflector. I've used metal flashing, cardboard and even camo burlap zip-tied and wired where I didn't want a loud ruckus made when the feeder went off.
