Question of those of you who have had alligator hunts cancelled...

Does TP&W give back your preference points if your hunt is cancelled?

During tropical depression #9 , TP&W held The alligator hunts in Murphy
It was really wet and flooding but hunting continued even with 8-9 inches of rain every day
Maybe they changed their policy, and we also got permits 2 more years in a row
With lots of hunters on standby hunting

90% chance that hunts on Murphree will get cancelled. When hurricanes come through along the coast, a lot of alligators are killed for various reasons, and a lot are dispersed into inland areas. The purpose of the hunts, besides recreation, is to keep the alligator population on the WMA's within the carrying capacity of the unit. They run spotlight surveys to assess this in the summer. A storm changes the population, so they generally don't hold a hunt that year. It happened with Rita and Harvey. I did get a hold of my buddy who got drawn the year of Rita, and they did get their points back and were drawn again two years later.
