    F-150 vs F-250 diesel

All I’ve ever owned was Half ton trucks. Always wanted a 3/4 ton. In a position where I can get one now I’m scared to pull the trigger.
    I’m looking at an ‘18 F-250 diesel.
I don’t need it for work. I do pull a 20 foot center console when life allows it. And then a 12 foot trailer to the lease usually loaded with typical lease stuff.
    What’s yalls opinion?
    Currently own a ‘17 f-150.

I've always had gas trucks as well. Went to the dealership looking for a new f150 and the sales guy said they had a good deal on a diesel. I've always wanted one so I checked it out. I automatically fell in love and will never go back to gas. I usually don't haul that much, but when I do, the power on I think is great. I use it as my daily driver and enjoy the heck out of it.

I have owned 3/4-1 ton diesel trucks since the early 90s.
This diesel will be my last.

I love my 2015 250. I highly recommend the 6.7L. However I think you dont pull enough to warrant the extra expense of higher priced diesel, oil, oil change, tires, etc. If you pulled an rv camper or large critters or big whatever...Id say do it...but since not...dont go diesel.

I hope youre happy whatever you do MrNinja.

I have a ‘17 F250 diesel. I have it because I want it and can afford it. Other people buy BMWs or corvettes, I bought a diesel.

I was in a similar situation and bought a diesel last Thursday. I'd had work trucks of the F250/350 variety, but all of those were gas. I've always wanted a diesel and less than a week in, I couldn't be happier. Do it! They hold their value like crazy so if for whatever reason you don't like it like you thought, you won't take much of a bath.

Once you drive a F250/350 diesel, you won’t willingly go back to a gas engine. Even if you don’t pull heavy loads, the power/torque you have under your foot is addictive.
Don’t let people tell you that you don’t “need” a 3/4 ton diesel because you don’t pull a trailer 5 days a week. People don’t need sports cars that are able to run 180mph either, but they **** sure still buy them.....and rarely do they were drive over 100mph (if ever).

Most people average 10K-20K miles a year. That’s 2-4 oil changes depending on if you follow the manufacturers recommends or feel the need to do it sooner. If you do the math on the price difference between gas oil changes and diesel oil changes, it’s $250 max more per year and that’s if you are over paying. Everyone throws out the added cost of a diesel, but it’s relatively insignificant considering how much money we all waste on dumb **** everyday.

                Buy what you want.

I dont see any added cost really, my 6.2 chevy requires super unleaded, its same price as diesel really. Oil change is 80 bucks with me doing it, my Cummins is just a lil more for a oil change and fuel filters. Probaly do 3 oil and filter changes a yr on the dodge. There is no comparison when pulling a load, the dodge is way better. If i want a smooth ride and not pulling then we take the chevy, if pulling we take the dodge most of the time, and fuel milage is way better in the diesel also

Do it. If you want it and are in a position where you can swing it, I always say go for it! I assume you already know it costs more to run, has the potential for catastrophic failure if any moisture gets in the fuel, and the inherent problems with the DPF system. I have a '12 6.7 Ford, and love it. Best truck I've ever owned, but it has had problems along the way. All minor, but still worth the headache.

Yes people do need sports car's that can do 180. The issue isn't going 180, its the tech that get's put on cars that help it do 180 safely. Check out the McLaren P1 if you want to know what your truck drive system is going to be in 10-15 years. It will make today's diesels look like 80's diesels in comparison, and I can't wait!

Gota go with BF ..I owned both ..I guess if your trailer load is less than 7K or less Stay with Gas....if above 9K Diesel or big block gas..I pulled 29TT all over Calif and Az high country with 03 Dodge Cummins...No Problem glad I had it..
and BF forgot to mention extra coast of D vs G engine...

That 7K and 9K numbers are not Gospel..just ruff numbers off top of my head from my experience...over 55y of Driving and Owning doing 95% of my repairs (from bulbs to complete rebuild both gas/diesel/N gas/Propane)..Oh yea Diesel parts are more exp (but have in general longer life) But Gas parts are catching up too!.Oh yea I am not hot rodder ..Drive speed limit 99% of time..

If you want it and can afford it then get it. Like someone else said. Some people buy corvettes and bmw maybe your nice car is a diesel. To hell with what others say or think. I live outside college station and I’m there regularly. That’s the land of I want a big truck and don’t need one. Guess what? No one cares but the ones that are jealous.

Get what you want if it’s feasible and to hell with what others think.

No, they want sports cars that can do 180. Nothing wrong with it, but let’s not pretend there’s an actual need for them.

If you want it, get it! Gas vehicles maintenance isn’t much cheaper now days than diesel, and drive what you want. I don’t always need a diesel, but when I do pull it’s usually a pretty good size load, and I drive about 75K miles a year for work, I’m gonna drive what I’m comfortable in when I spend that much time in it.

I’ve always drove 3/4 or 1 Ton diesels.. In 2016 I bought an f150 with the 5.0 and I hated it.. No guts at all pulling even a small bumper pull after you are used to pulling anything with a diesel. My wife even said it was a wussy truck when she pulled my 16’ bumper pull and my Mule Pro.. lol .
. I went back to a f250 diesel in 2019 and have not looked back
